In the very first activity in the project partners have investigated the problem from the young people’s point of view in order to understand, which points are relevant for young people in avoiding plastic in clothing. What motivation is there to deal with the topic, what is the current state of knowledge among young people and to what extent is problem awareness present? Youth organisations and youth workers must know the problem awareness of the young people, understand their points of view and understand their motivation on the topic in order to be able to work adequately and purposefully with young people on the problem of plastic in clothing. That is why focus groups were created and interviews with young people have been conducted. Youth answered crucial questions about sustainable fashion. Thanks to this we have discovered that:
– young people participating in the survey have low awareness of ecological fashion and the impact of the clothing industry on the environment
– the knowledge that young people have is residual and disordered – they have heard certain concepts, but are unable to explain them, relate to their lives, apply them in practice
– young people participating in the focus groups do not pay much attention to pro-ecological behaviour on a daily basis, but this is mainly due to insufficient education in this area
– young people understand the need to take pro-ecological actions
– the groups under review shows great sensitivity, mainly in ethical issues related to fashion and the clothing industry
– the groups under review is willing to increase its knowledge of ecology and implement pro-ecological behaviour in the field of fashion in its life.
